American Red Cross

Our mission: The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
We provide a variety of services to the community including;
· Every year more than 50,000 New Mexicans learn lifesaving skills like CPR, first aid and lifeguarding. Some even learn how to provide first aid to their dogs and cats while others take babysitter training
· On average, one family experiences a disaster every day in New Mexico. Large or small, Red Cross volunteers respond to meet their immediate emergency needs. We ensure disaster victims have food, shelter and clothing. We help bridge the gap between the time right before the emergency or disaster occurs to the time when the family is back on the road to recovery.
· The Red Cross provides objective, timely, confidential, factual, complete, and verified reports on emergency situations for service members and their loved ones. As one of many voluntary relief societies providing support and assistance to the U.S. Armed Forces and their families, these reports enable service members and their commanders to make informed decisions about leave and other matters in order to prevent, prepare for, and respond to a family emergency. We provide information to service members and their loved ones so they know how to access our emergency communications program 24/7. Our caseworkers open between two and three new cases for service members.
· As part of our mission to prepare families and individuals for emergencies, we reach out to as many groups as we can. From state fair to community safety days, we’re the subject matter experts in emergency preparedness for the whole family. Every year our preparedness materials reach nearly 20,000 New Mexicans.
· Not a governmental organization the Red Cross relies on the generosity of the communities we serve. Donations of time and money are not only the best ways to help the Red Cross but are critical to ensuring the programs we provide can continue.
